Four Radio Derb listeners have now emailed in to tell me that the word "oikophobia"—fear of one's own, the opposite of xenophobia—was actually coined by British philosopher Roger Scruton (pictured) in his 2012 book How to Think Seriously About the Planet: The Case for an Environmental Conservatism.

Both "oikophobia" and its converse "oikophilia" turn up in Martin Witkerk's review of Scruton's book in the Winter 2013 issue of Social Contract.
